Coven Dig

published on

Coven is where I grew up and when I heard there was going to be some archaeological excavations going on of course I wanted to take part. Paul Robinson was in charge a local resident, historian and archaeologist. We were going to take a look at an area of the village called the Bront a low lying part of the village with a stream running threw it.

Members of the Coven Community Archaeology Project in action.

Nice clay pipe stem. A clay pipe stem stamped 'The Proper Pipe' found at The Bront is the first record of that type found outside Cheshire - it was made in Manchester and the only other finds of that particular pipe are from Chester and Warrington.

Slag - evidence of metal working.

You can let me know your thoughts here.
